Ambassador Duke Buchan III is a financier, diplomat, farmer, and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of Hunter Global Investors, a private investment management firm. He currently serves as the National Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). He was the U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra from 2017 to 2021.  In March 2025, President Trump named Ambassador Buchan as his nominee for the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco.  Having visited, traveled, and worked in Morocco for more than 40 years, he is uniquely qualified to advance the bilateral relationship with one of our oldest and steadiest allies.

Ambassador Buchan is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hunter Global Investors L.P., a private asset management firm that invests in a range of assets globally including real estate. He founded Hunter in 2001 in New York City; the firm is now based in Palm Beach, FL. He splits his time between Manhattan, Europe, and Palm Beach. In the early 1990s, Ambassador Buchan was an investment banker specializing in corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the United States. From 1997 to 2001, he was a principal at a large hedge fund where he managed the firm’s investments in financial institutions and real estate globally. He has traveled, lived, and/or done business in more than 50 countries for more than four decades.

As the U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Ambassador Buchan focused on the advancement of the United States’ global interests. He championed President Trump’s commitment to democracy and human rights, helped negotiate a landmark tax agreement with Spain that increased investment and trade between our two nations, and pushed for greater accountability from America’s NATO allies.

In addition to his current leadership role with the RNC, Ambassador Buchan was a member of the Trump 47 Executive Finance Committee. He and his wife, Hannah, were Vice Chairmen of the Trump-Vance Presidential Inaugural Committee. Under President Trump’s leadership, the Trump 47/RNC team raised almost $1.1 billion during the 2024 election cycle, exceeding all prior Republican presidential fundraising campaigns. The fundraising vehicles for President Trump’s inauguration raised a record-breaking $250 million.

The Buchans were the first $1 million donor to Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. They have remained loyal and generous contributors, supporting President Trump in the 2020 and 2024 election cycles, and serving as top fundraisers for his political entities. The Buchans have also donated extensively to the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the Republican Governors Association, and GOP candidates.

Ambassador Buchan is actively involved in education and other philanthropic causes. He served as Vice Chair on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Arts and Sciences Foundation Board of Directors, the Chancellor’s Philanthropic Council, and the University’s Campaign Planning Cabinet.
